Community Health and Wellbeing - 2023 Northern Queensland Bushfires

About 

The $2.51 million Community Health and Wellbeing package targets communities activated for personal hardship assistance and who experienced loss and severe damage of properties due to the Northern Queensland Bushfires, 18 October - 8 December 2023.

The package includes:

  • $1.76 million towards community recovery and resilience officers to engage, support and promote recovery and resilience planning and activities at a local level.
  • $.6 million will fund community recovery grant coordinators to help impacted individuals navigate available services. 
  • $150,000 in Flexible Funding Grants available across all LGAs to be used for the development of emergency, disaster preparedness and business continuity plans, including for community organisations and Neighbourhood Centres.
     

The package will support and promote recovery and resilience planning and activities at a local level and help impacted individuals navigate available services. 

Eligibility

Department of Local Government, Water and Volunteers will deliver the Community Health and Wellbeing in the following council areas:

  • Cook Shire Council
  • Mareeba Regional Council
  • Tablelands Regional Council

Funding acknowledgement 

The package is funded by the Queensland Government using efficiencies realised under the joint Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA) to support Queensland communities in their recovery from the Northern Queensland Bushfires, 18 October - 8 December 2023 event.
