Vulnerable Brisbane residents supported with income-tested hailstorm assistance
A range of targeted hardship payments are now available for eligible uninsured residents in 15 Brisbane suburbs impacted by last month’s hailstorms.
This includes grants for the repair or replacement of damaged essential household items, to reconnect critical services like power and water, and in severe cases to fund reconstruction works on affected homes.
Support has been activated for the following Brisbane localities: Ashgrove, Bardon, Boondall, Ferny Grove, Gumdale, Keperra, Lota, Manly, Manly West, Mount Crosby, Ransome, The Gap, Wakerley, Wynnum, and Wynnum West.
Available assistance includes:
- Structural Assistance Grants: Up to $80,000 for uninsured, income-tested homeowners to restore disaster-damaged properties to a safe and liveable condition.
- Essential Household Contents Grants: Up to $1,765 for individuals or $5,300 for families to replace essential household items.
- Essential Services Safety and Reconnection Scheme: Grants up to $5,000 per household for uninsured homeowners to reconnect essential services like electricity and water.
The three Personal Hardship Assistance measures are provided under the joint Commonwealth-state Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA), funded by the Australian and Queensland Governments.
Information on eligibility and applications can be found at www.disaster.qld.gov.au or by contacting the 24/7 Community Recovery Hotline on 1800 173 349.
This new tranche of assistance is the latest to be announced in response to the severe storms that struck south-east Queensland on 24 and 25 November 2025.
Hailstones up to 15cm in diameter and extreme winds left thousands of homes damaged over the two-day period.
Personal Hardship Assistance has now been activated for eight south-east government areas, while 10 councils across the region are receiving DRFA support for their recovery.
The Queensland Reconstruction Authority remains in close contact with all affected councils to make sure local recovery is delivered in full.
